– Stay hydrated!

Filling our stomachs with lots of water can make us feel like we are hydrating adequately, but getting the hydrogen to reach our cells is what really properly hydrates our body. In order to get well hydrated on the cellular level and keep our skin and the rest of our body functioning at their best, we need to add electrolytes into our daily regimen. I trust Seeking Health’s products for things as important as this, so I recommend taking Optimal Electrolytes every day. Just add plain, orange, or berry flavored electrolytes to filtered water. Being hydrated goes a long way to keeping skin healthy all year long.

-Supplement with omega-3 fatty acids.

Taking in the right nourishment, especially when it comes to omega-3 fatty acids, has an impact on the health of our largest organ- our skin. Foods high in these important “good fat” include tuna, salmon, walnuts, and flax seed. Cell membrane health is important, and these fatty acids are vital to their proper functioning. To ensure I get sufficient intake of omega-3 fatty acids, I take Nordic Naturals Ultimate Omega every day. My kids take the Nordic Naturals Children’s DHA.

Because I’m a huge fan of Dr. Ben Lynch and all things Seeking Health, I would feel very comfortable also recommending the Seeking Health Optimal Fish Oil

-Trade your typical skin care products for more natural options.

The chemicals and artificial ingredients found in lotions and skin care products are best avoided. Our skin acts as a gateway for unwanted chemicals to absorb right into our systems. And so often, heavy lotions just mask our dryness instead of nourishing our skin. Once I replaced lotions with more natural moisturizers like oils, I found that my body rarely needed the oil to be reapplied over and over like I had been used to with lotion. In fact, after I started taking better care of my skin by dry brushing several times a week, I rarely needed to use oil at all as a moisturizer throughout the day. I simplified my routine to dry brushing, then bathing/showering, and lastly sealing in the moisture by applying almond oil. Other oils that work well are olive oil, safflower oil, and avocado oil.

Besides moisturizing my face with oil every morning and evening, and moisturizing my entire body on the days I dry brush, I rarely need to use any oil in the way that I used to feel like I needed to apply lotion. Bear in mind, that I don’t use harsh soaps in the shower or to wash my hands. I recommend using very gentle soaps that won’t dry out my skin. I’ve had great luck with Yardley soaps for bathing and hand-washing. I also love Mrs Meyers soaps for hand washing and washing dishes.

When talking about natural products for skin care, it is worth mentioning the importance of using properly filtered water. The harsh chemicals that accompany the water that conveniently comes out of our faucets are not helpful for skin health. It is well worth the investment of a shower filter to avoid the exposure to the bromine, chlorine, and flouride that would soak our skin. Berkey is one of the most trusted companies for filtering water, and this product includes the filter and a companion shower head.

Give your skin the TLC it deserves.

The way we look and feel on the outside is often a reflection of our overall health. I know that the better care I take of myself in general by resting, managing stress, avoiding refined sugars and foods, and getting plenty of nutrients through food and supplements, the better I feel inside and out. Our bodies are worth taking the time, energy, and expense of caring for. Here’s to great skin all year round!
